| Admin_History | Richard Russell attended the AA from 1924-1927 before returning to Broadway, Worcestershire, where he took on the role of designer for his brother's furniture company, Russell & Sons (later Gordon Russell Ltd). Richard set up his own design practice in 1930 but continued to work as a consultant for Gordon Russell Ltd, designing wireless cabinets for Murphy Radio Company and many other iconic Gordon Russell products. After the war he worked on the designs for the Lion and Unicorn Pavillion for the 1951 Festival of Britain and was appointed Professor, heading the School of Wood, Metals and Plastics, at the Royal College of Art. He also established an architecture and design practice, working in partnership with Ian Hodgeson and Ray Leigh. |
| Custodial_History | After Richard D. Russell's death in 1981, the drawings were passed to the Trustees of the Gordon Russell Museum, Broadway, Worcester, where they were housed until 2011. |
