DescriptionComprises primarily of student work completed by Martin Pawley during his studies at the Oxford School of Architecture, 1956-60, and the Architectural Association, 1961-62, 1966-67; he received his AA diploma in the summer of 1968. The AA projects include 4th year work for a colliery workshop, office building at Hyde Park Corner, and a national film theatre. Pawley's AA 5th year project on the Time House is also included. There are also research notes on the Time House and a proposed book on the visual image style, 1966-71.

Admin_HistoryMartin Pawley (1938-2008), writer, teacher and critic, studied at the Oxford School of Architecture from 1956-1960, the Architectural Association from 1961-62 and 1966-67, and received his AA diploma in the summer of 1968. During his prolific career he contributed to every major British architectural journal, edited the AA's weekly newssheet Ghost Dance Times (1974-75), and edited Building Design (1981-83), as well as writing for the leading international journals. In addition he was the architecture critic for the Observer and the Guardian (1984-91) and wrote regularly for the Architect's Journal. He also was the author of a number of books on modern architecture and architectural criticism; his last book, The Strange Death of Architectural Criticism, published in 2007, was a compilation of one hundred of his most memorable magazine and newspaper essays. Pawley was visiting professor at several institutions in the 1970's: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 1975-76, Florida A&M University 1977-79, and the University of California, Los Angeles 1979-80. He was a member of the Architectural Association Council in 1983-84.
Custodial_HistoryRecords were retained by Martin Pawley until 2008.
