Frequently Asked Questions:
What Is The Catalogue?
The archive catalogue is a database containing descriptions of the records held in the AA Archives. Its primarly purpose is to allows researchers to identify relevant
material and to request access to them in the Archives Reading Room. The catalogue descriptions and the hierarchical manner in which they are arranged, likewise aim
to provide a historic context to the documents.
What Student Drawings Do You Have?
We have holdings of AA student drawings dating from the 1860s to the current day and are constantly adding to our collections.
However, as the Archives were only formed 3 years ago we have a backlog of 165 years of cataloguing. Correspondingly, only small percentage of our
student portfolios have at present been catalogued. If you cannot find what you are looking for on the catalogue it is best to contact the archivist who
will be able to advise you further.
Are Drawings Available To View Online?
At present, only a small number of drawings are currrently available to view online. This is in part because the cataloguing of the archives is still in
its infancy but also due the costs involved in digitising large numbers of oversized, fragile and valuable material.
However, all material can be viewed within the Archives Reading Room itself.
Can I Just Pop In And Browse In The Archive?
Yes, providing you are a current AA student, AA member, or have purchased a Temporary Readers' Pass, you are more than welcome to drop by and browse through some
drawings or other records.
